What the FAQ?

FAQ

WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY CARCINOGEN-FREE?

YOUR health is far more important than the forge! As is known, basically all insulation for these extreme temperatures contains "carcinogenic" or "possibly carcinogenic" particles. OUR wool is completely free of these, so 100% Carcinogen-free! We were the first in the world to try and test this wool for our gas lforges. Now we hope that other manufacturers of gas insulation will follow our lead on our most important issue, and above all that they will inform the customer which particles their insulation contains.

DO YOU NEED SHUTTERS?

No, you need to actually not gaps. ALL our forges achieve full effect and well temperature without gaps. Shutters have their big advantages, for example you keep the heat more efficiently and thus save gas. However, it requires you to be vigilant about what "actual" temperature you use. Many overconsume the temperature in their forge! The forge and the insulation can be affected by the high heat that occurs. Recommend one IR meter, 1300° goes a long way.

WHAT IS DECARBULATION?

As many know, there are certain models of Venturi and Ribbon burners on the market that decarburize / decarburize the steel. This does NOT apply to our burner RAGNARÖK, which we can show through tests at Luleå University of Technology.

- Decarburization in a carbon steel means the process where the carbon content in the steel is reduced by releasing carbon atoms from the steel. This can occur at high temperatures, typically above 700°C, and can be intentional or unintentional. Decarburization can affect the steel's properties, including its hardness, strength and toughness. It can also affect the steel's ability to undergo certain treatments, such as hardening and tempering. Decarburization may be desirable in some cases, such as in the manufacture of soft and malleable steels, while it may be undesirable in other cases, such as in the manufacture of tool steels that require high hardness and impact resistance.

CAN YOU BOOK AN FORGE IN ADVANCE?

You can of course pre-book your forge by Contact us. Please also enter your mobile number. We will contact you when the forge is ready. You are not committed to any purchase, you can easily change your mind.

VENTURI OR RIBBON BURNER?

Our own conclusion

Spring RAGNAR SMOKE ( "venturi 3.0" model) burner has all the features we wanted: Light/flexible, minimal design, very easy to use, no fan or electricity needed, non-existent decarbonisation, extreme power, low gasconsumption and above all, safe for the customer to use. And incredibly affordable!

SPRING conclusion why we for our part did not choose RIBBON:

More expensive to manufacture, longer manufacturing time, possibly more difficult to maintain, clean and repair. Also takes up more spforge, significantly heavier and in our tests less efficient at low temperatures. Moreover, they are more complex and require considerably more knowledge and experience from the customer before use, which became the deciding factor. - We cannot currently sell ribbon burners in view of the customer's safety. (We know this from experience from situations that can arise if you are not in full control.)

WHAT DO I NEED FOR VENTILATION?

Our gas forges do not really require special adapted ventilation or smoke ducts such as a coal stove, but of course no disadvantage if there is. You can basically be anywhere you want when you forge. No soot and smoke that harms your health or disturbs your neighbors.

Please note! Ensure good ventilation. As is known, gas forges consume a lot of air/oxygen (1kg gas– 12.000 liters of air) so open a door or a window for good ventilation and flow to the room. This is often done automatically when it gets too hot in the room. The operation of the burners is also affected and optimized by good ventilation. Feel free to talk to a ventilation installer and they will help you. We also recommend one gas detector which, for a cheap price, gives you good protection in the event of gas or carbon monoxide leakage.

WHY IS IT OFTEN OUT OF STOCK?

Yes, that's right, our forges have been popular and usually sold or booked before we finished making a round. BUT everyone who orders or makes a reservation gets their gas bottle! Delivery time normally 2-6 weeks from order, if the warehouse shows empty.

WHAT TEMPERATURE DOES YOUR forgeS REACH?

All models achieve AT LEAST +1500°C! The pros I know use about 1050°C - 1250°C when they pour or make damasked steel. Recommends that you read up on your steel and use IR meters.

WHICH FORGE SHOULD I CHOOSE?

Feel free to write to us if you are unsure about the model!?

All our gas forges, regardless of model, are for the professional blacksmith as well as for the beginner. As I said, ALL models achieve well temperature with ease. An forge with more burners does not mean much higher temperatures, but greater power and faster heating. Feel free to think about WHAT you want to forge, what length is needed, etc., and choose based on that. We have customers who forge and sharpen axes in our "little" Asgård (model discontinued).

ONE OR TWO BURNERS?

An forge with more burners does not mean much higher temperatures, but greater power and faster heating. Feel free to think about WHAT you want to forge, what length is needed, etc., and choose based on that.

CAN YOU ADD A FAN TO YOUR BURNER?

No! Our burner RAGNARÖK 3.0 is tested and optimized just as it is built. That's the beauty, our burner doesn't need anything extra to handle high temperatures. If you add a fan, you also increase the amount of oxygen, which in turn increases the risk of burning the carbon from the steel "decarburization".

DO YOU ALSO SEND TO NORWAY AND HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Absolutely we do! Prices for shipping vary depending on location. For many of the pieces we sold to Norwegian customers, we have arranged shipping within Sweden and collected them ourselves across the border because the cost is lower.

WHY WOOL AND NOT FIREPROOF GOODS?

When we started the "building project" we didn't know what form and type of insulation we would use in our gas heaters? Exciting! We carried out tests with refractory stone, refractory plaster, refractory insulating brick and different types of wool. From the master blacksmiths that we contacted at the beginning of 2017, we basically got the same answer from all of them.

MEN if you haven't tried it, you don't really know.

In the refractory stone materials so we had to run the burner(s) for up to an hour before the forge was up to the desired forging temperatures. Stores the heat well but a lot of gasand a long wait. The same applied the casting mass which also required just over 7 sacks because it had to be cast very thick to avoid cracking and weathering. Long process, expensive and something you don't want to move around :-). Also requires drying oven after casting to avoid risk of steam explosion. The insulating brick “sucked” the heat and did not store heat, but was easy to handle.

-So what was the best?

To summarize our own tests briefly as follows UL the absolute most cost-effective insulation in terms of 1.gasconsumption,  2.Thermal properties and 3.Heat retention even though we chose a very expensive insulation wool that would meet our requirements, read more.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY "SAB"?

You choose the angle of the burner yourself. Please read more about SAB under one of our articles.
